If they saw them they might recognize them and opt not to mate with them. If they were tested against them and found they were 3rd cousins or closer, they might not choose to have children with them. In fact if they found they were related to them at any perceptable level, they would probably just choose a different person to have offspring with. It's true you might not know your third cousin by face anyway, which is probably why cryobanks don't offer the option of testing against donors. But the chances of birth defects are greater when people inbreed closer than 3rd cousins and so you'd think that the least a person could do if they were going to reproduce with a total stranger is make sure they were std free and not related to you. You'd think that not being your 2nd cousin would rank higer on the list of deal breakers than stuff like height or eye color.
