When positioned above a sensationally unappealing subspecies of humanity, the full bladder can play merry hell with an ordinarily civilised mind. It would be deceitful to deny, for example, that during a brief stint as a parliamentary sketchwriter, gazing down on the government front bench from the press gallery above, the thought did not occur.
